Phishing Scam Targets Amazon Shoppers

Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno is warning residents to keep an eye out for fraudulent emails appearing to be from Amazon currently making the rounds to inboxes of residents.

The bogus email appears to be legitimate but it is not. The email may say there is a problem renewing your Amazon Prime account or that your account has been hacked and passwords have been changed. The email requests you call a listed phone number; however, that number will connect you directly to the scammer.

If you receive an email like this, do not open attachments, click on links, or call the phony number for Amazon. You can report suspicious emails claiming to be from Amazon to stop-spoofing@amazon.com or contact the Sheriff’s Office fraud line at 239-258-3292.
