Special Operations

 Commander Mike Tamulionis

Commander Mike Tamulionis, a St. John’s University (NY) graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice in 2003, was also drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the Major League Baseball Draft that same year and enjoyed his time playing before beginning his well accomplished career in law enforcement.
He began his career with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office in 2005, starting at 1st Precinct. In 2007, he was chosen for the Street Crimes Unit, and was later moved to a detective position in the Fugitive Warrants Unit and the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force. His exceptional service earned him the Combat Cross in 2012, and he was named Deputy of the Year by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Officer of the Year by the Southwest Florida Police Chiefs. In 2013, he received another Combat Cross and was honored as Deputy of the Year again, as well as Law Enforcement Officer of the Year by the Lee County Bar Association. Additionally, he was selected for the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Unit (SOU/SWAT) and served as an operator until 2018.
In 2013, Commander Tamulionis moved to Internal Affairs and was promoted to Sergeant. By 2015, he was assigned to the FBI’s Violent Crime Safe Streets Taskforce and was promoted to Lieutenant in 2016. As a Lieutenant, he initially worked in the Economic Crimes Unit, where he developed the Criminal Investigative Assistant Program (CIA), which trained civilian staff to support detectives, thus reducing the need for additional officers and saving taxpayer money. He later moved to the Narcotics Section as the Operations Lieutenant before being promoted to Captain in 2018. In this role, he served as a Watch Commander and Training Captain and returned to Narcotics in 2020.
Promoted to Commander in 2022, he led the expansion project for the Narcotics Unit. In 2023, he took command of the Special Operations/Tactical Support Bureau, where he continues to serve.
Commander Tamulionis is married with two children and coaches a youth travel baseball team.
