Carmine Marceno
Sheriff Carmine Marceno’s passion for law enforcement began at a very young age. As a child, he was enamored with law enforcement, which ultimately drove him to pursue a career within the field. Carrying out his dream of making a difference within his own community, he began his law enforcement career in Suffolk County, New York. Sheriff Marceno served Suffolk County until moving to Southwest Florida where he joined the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.
While employed with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Marceno worked as a Patrol Deputy and was a member of numerous specialty units within the agency. He transitioned to a larger public liaison role in community policing, eventually serving as Executive Officer.
In 2012, Sheriff Carmine Marceno was awarded the Collier County’s Distinguished Public Service Award, given to the county’s top public servant.
Sheriff Marceno’s experience led him to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office in 2013 as a Captain where he served as the executive Officer to Sheriff Mike Scott. He later served as Undersheriff for more than two years where he assumed supervisory responsibilities for day-to-day operations as a member of Command Staff.
Due to his dedication to the agency and exemplary leadership skills, Sheriff Carmine Marceno was hand selected to attend the prestigious FBI National Academy Session 267. He graduated the intense, 10-week program in March 2017.
Sheriff Marceno was appointed Sheriff of Lee County in 2018 by Governor Rick Scott. During this appointment, Sheriff Carmine Marceno received several honors and accolades for his leadership, zero tolerance stance on crime, and service to the residents of Lee County. In 2019, Sheriff Carmine Marceno received the “Outstanding Law Enforcement Executive” award from the Southwest Florida Police Chiefs Association.
On November 3, 2020, Sheriff Carmine Marceno was elected Lee County’s 13th Sheriff. Since Sheriff Marceno’s tenure, Lee County has experienced a consistent decline in the crime rate, even during major events such as the Covid-19 pandemic and Hurricane Ian.
This reduction is due in part to the various initiatives and programs implemented, tasked at increasing safety within the county and improving quality of life. Some of these include the creation of the Real Time Intelligence Center, the Animal Cruelty Task Force, the School Threat Enforcement Team, and expanding the Narcotics Unit.
In 2024, Sheriff Marceno was appointed the position of Florida Sheriff’s Liaison for FASRO (Florida Association of School Resource Officers). The advisory role will help oversee the standardization of training and response in schools for School Resource Officers in the state.
In the same year, the Florida Sheriff’s Association appointed Sheriff Marceno a committee member for the FSA Florida Sheriff’s Youth Learning Center Building. The committee will oversee the planning, construction, and implementation of a new facility in Tallahassee focused on providing learning opportunities and a center for the community to positively engage with law enforcement.
Sheriff Carmine Marceno has also placed a strong emphasis on technology. He strives towards equipping the agency state-of-the-art crime fighting technologies like Robotdog, a sophisticated fleet of drones, FLIR cameras on helicopters, the FARO and ANDE Rapid DNA machine, upgraded SWAT gear, VR training, the Rook, and more among others.
In addition, Sheriff Marceno recognized the importance of establishing and strengthening the relationship with the community. He created the Community Response Unit that focuses on fostering grass root partnerships and worked toward opening several outreach centers located a various locations throughout the county.
