Carjacking Suspect Pursued, Taken into Custody

At approximately 1:30 pm, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for service in regard to a carjacking that occurred on the 5500 block of Division Drive in Fort Myers.
 
The suspect attempted to carjack a 57-year-old female.  That attempt was thwarted by the actions of a good samaritan who intervened on her behalf.  During the encounter, the suspect stole the good samaritan’s vehicle and fled the area.  The female victim was injured and taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.
 
Deputies responded to the area and located the suspect and the stolen vehicle on Palm Beach Boulevard.  Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop, however, the suspect continued to flee in the vehicle.
 
Deputies utilized a PIT maneuver to ultimately stop the fleeing felon.  The suspect was taken into custody.  
 
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit has assumed the investigation.  There is no danger to the public.
