Deputies with the Lee County Sheriff's Office Traffic Unit are investigating a hit and run that left a child with serious injuries.
On Monday, March 24 at approximately 6:00 p.m., deputies responded to a call regarding a traffic crash that occurred in the area of Billy Bowlegs Park near March Avenue in Fort Myers. The child was walking in a crosswalk when he was struck by a gold or silver type vehicle. The driver of the vehicle then assisted the child into her vehicle. The driver took the child to his home and left without rendering any aid or leaving any information. The child was then taken to Lee Memorial Hospital for injuries he sustained in the crash.
The driver of the vehicle is described as a middle-aged black woman with a pony tail or braids. She was wearing a Pollo Tropical work shirt.
The name of the child is being withheld at the time due to the on-going investigation.
