On Friday, May 31, 2013 at 10:46 a.m., deputies with the Lee County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the Bank of America, 6100 Whiskey Creek Drive, Fort Myers, Florida in reference to an armed robbery.
Witnesses say, a white male approximately 5’10” tall with a slender build , wearing tan hat, sunglasses with dark shorts entered the bank and presented a note to the teller demanding cash. The suspect alluded he had a firearm. The victim complied and the robber fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
No injuries were reported during the robbery.
A description of the man and direction of travel was immediately conveyed to all district deputies. Deputies identified a subject matching the description and descended on the Sunoco Gas station at 11401 McGregor Boulevard. The suspect noticed the deputies and attempted to hide in the gas station, but was not successful. He was taken into custody without further incident.
Due to the nature of the robbery, detectives and crime scene technicians of the Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit were assigned to continue the investigation. As a result, Nicola Mastrocola (DOB 09/17/1976) was charged for robbery without a weapon. He was transported to the Lee County Jail for booking.
